Well what a year, we are certainly in different times, the whole landscape for racing and peoples’ attitude has changed .. Due to the uncertainty surrounding Covid we have taken the decision that the 2021 Poppy Half Marathon will continue, but in the form of a VR (virtual race).
We can’t just pass by VE75 day, so just like the Olympics we are calling this the 2020 event and the commemorative medal and T-shirt (designed by Keith Stokes, of Highkite Design Ltd) will be in remembrance of VE75 day..
Those of you who entered the 2020 races will automatically be transferred to the virtual race unless we hear from you to the contrary the 10K and 5K will be added to the list.
So how does it work?…
Enter the race as normal through ACTIVE,  Poppy is listed as a virtual race.
So from 13th November 2021 through to 31st December 2021 upload your time and distance with a screenshot of your run data..  Garmin or Smart watch are acceptable to the Active portal, this is linked to your entry!
It is as simple as that! if for any reason you guys struggle (like I would) buzz your run screen shot to Sue in the office and she will sort that..
Race results will be produced once the cut off date has been reached, and all finishers medals will be posted out.
As you probably know Dean and I started the Bergen run some 5 years ago in remembrance of Dean’s Grandad who fought and died in WW1.. So to continue this tradition Dean, Jo and I will be at De La Warr with our 50lb Bergens starting at the normal race time 12:30 on 13th November… we will be paying our respects with the Last Post, National Anthem etc around 12:15..
You are welcome to join us with or without the Bergen, remember there will be no fanfare, frills or race set up, just Dean, Jo and I… and of course you will need to be responsible for yourselves, ie nutrition, water  etc…  Be great to have you guys  join in and keep us company.
It has been really hard for the Charity this past 18 months, as our fund raising activities have been cancelled, however, it’s great to be back in some small way to allow us to raise awareness and funds to continue to help those causes so close to everyones hearts.
A JustGiving page for our Bergen run is being set up and the details will be available shortly.
If you are thinking of entering please do this as soon as you can, as we will be limiting entries to 500.
Do let Sue  know if you don’t want your entry brought forward, she can be contacted on [email protected].
If you are local to Bexhill and would like to come down and give us a socially distanced cheer that too would be much appreciated.
