Event details

Our flagship event that was established in 2007.

In 2020 it was the 75 Anniversary of VE Day and the nation will remember the impact that leaving, missing and returning home has on service men and women & their loved ones – then and now. The commemorations for both VE and VJ Day would have been the central part of our national remembrance in 2020 had we not had to postpone the race as a result of COVID-19 and would have brought home the scale of service and sacrifice made by men and women of the Second World War generation. As always in 2021 we will gather together in a mark of respect during remembrance weekend at the Poppy Half Marathon and there’s nothing more impactful than seeing everyone running along the Bexhill’s seafront in mass. We include a two minutes silence and the event is branded in Poppies in respect to those who lost their lives during war – lest we forget.  All proceeds raised also go to charity so please give generously… why not buy one of our fantastic rucksacks or t-shirts! During the 13 miles you’ll pass the iconic De La Warr Pavilion plenty of times (incl the start and finish), so spectators get great access to cheering you on and offering support. There’s the option to run with our ‘Army Bergen Team’ too – a challenge introduced and organised by one of our trustees Dean Baker… Its tough with a Bergen weighing in around 40-50lb, I ran it in 2016 with this pack and all I can say is “THAT’S HARD!”

Each race will aim to start prompt so please ensure you are registered and near the start line. Please note races are for runners only, all courses are laps on the promenade.  Unfortunately due to the numbers of runners and course format it is not suitable for wheelchairs, buggies or runners with dogs. You are not required to bring anything to registration, just know your surname! Bags etc can be left in the designated bag drop area.

We look forward to seeing you!

Car Parking

There is plenty of parking around Bexhill town and the seafront, and it is free. There is a limited amount of parking in the De La Warr car park which is fee paying. We would advise parking around the town and seafront and walking the short distance to the De La Warr Pavilion.

There are toilets inside De La Warr Pavilion and also a bank of porta-loo toilets outside around race start. Public Toilets on the prom to the East (500 mtrs) and the West (500 mtrs) of the start line.

Chip Timing

Timing chip and strap can be collected at registration, please fit around your ANKLE or onto your shoe. Please make sure it is secure. Chips will not read on the mats if they are in your hand, wrist etc. Chips are handed back in after you cross the finish line. Your official race finish time ticket will be available in real time.

Drinks and fuel

You’ll pass water stations at 5km/8km/13km/16km. Please carry any additional water/fuel if you need a different race nutrition strategy.

Post race snacks and drink will be available after your race in the Marquee outside DLWP.  Plus the DLWP café will be open all day for athletes and spectators.

Run with care

Races are held on the promenade, with a small section on South Cliff Road. Some sections will have runners heading in both directions so do make sure you keep to the LEFT throughout the run. The half marathon is 3 laps so lead runners will catch the slower runners, again please keep to the left and be aware. We would request you don’t use MP3 players during the run, as it stops you hearing marshals and instructions on the course. The courses are laps based on the promenade and not suitable for wheelchairs, buggies or dogs etc. Don’t forget the Promenade is open to the Public.

Medical cover will be onsite race day, if you have any issues requiring medical assistance notify the nearest race marshal.

Please ensure you are fit and healthy before starting your race, and you are fully aware of the physical exertion you are about to attempt!

We take pride in our memorabilia and merchandise and we’re keen to promote it alongside our races. All proceeds go to charity so why not invest in our branded rucksack or beanie and give back to a great cause. We also have bespoke designs created each year for our race t-shirts and medal.

The results will go live quickly after the event on the UK Sports Timing website, we will also endeavour to post them up on this site under the results page too.

All race photos will be uploaded to the website for you to download as soon as possible after the race.
